2. Construction Begins on 1,000+ Unit Tower at 175 Third Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn (newyorkyimby.com) — Work is underway on a 27-story, 1,000-plus unit tower at 175 Third Street in Gowanus, bringing 250 affordable apartments and a large public waterfront esplanade to Brooklyn. The project will add retail, artist space, and extensive amenities while reshaping the Gowanus Canal edge with new parks, recreation courts, and flood‑resilient landscaping for nearby residents.
3. Public Power New York Plans Utility Hearing in Brooklyn (bkreader.com) — Brooklyn residents can attend a public "Utility Ripoff Hearing" on Oct. 6 at Herbert Von King Park to share concerns about rising Con Edison and National Grid bills and learn about energy affordability programs. Local elected officials and advocates will explain how New York's energy system works and outline proposals for more public ownership of energy infrastructure and renewables.
4. MTA Announces J and M Train Service Changes (bkreader.com) — J and M train riders in Brooklyn neighborhoods like Williamsburg, Bushwick, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and East New York will face weekday and weekend service changes from Oct. 13 through Nov. 23 as the MTA replaces aging switches near Marcy Avenue. Expect local-only J service at times, weekend shuttles to Manhattan, split M service, and recommended alternate routes via A, C, E, L and 4/5/6 lines.
5. BSA Images Of The Week: 10.04.26 (brooklynstreetart.com) — Street art fans can catch several notable shows and murals around New York City this month, including new graffiti-rooted exhibits and a massive Basquiat mural in progress downtown.
