BROOKLYN, NY— Construction at Atlantic Avenue and Boerum Place in Brooklyn is scheduled to begin in fall 2026, bringing a raised crosswalk, upgraded pedestrian ramps and new traffic signals to the intersection.

The project aims to slow vehicles and make pedestrians more visible to drivers.

The work also will add accessible pedestrian signals, which use audible or other accessible cues to help people with disabilities cross streets.

Restani Construction Corp. will handle the work, with design completion expected in spring 2027.

How Will Construction Affect Traffic?

Work at Atlantic Avenue and Boerum Place is expected to last about one month.

Crews will generally work from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Weekend work could run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. if necessary.

Three traffic lanes will remain open on Atlantic Avenue during construction hours: one eastbound left-turn lane, one eastbound through lane and one westbound through lane.

Crews will restore all travel lanes after working hours.

Four New York City Police Department traffic agents will help direct traffic during construction.

The crosswalk on Atlantic Avenue west of Boerum Place will close during working hours.

Crews will route the bike lane into a shared lane with southbound vehicles on Boerum Place between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street.

Drivers also will face temporary no-parking restrictions on both sides of Boerum Place between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street.

Access to nearby buildings and parking garages will remain available during construction.

Will Water Service Be Interrupted?

The project includes relocating a water main valve and installing a new catch basin, chute connection and manhole.

Officials have not yet confirmed the locations or dates of any water shutdowns.

The project team will share those details with the community once they become available.

Construction crews must follow the city's noise code and dust-control regulations during the work.
