Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
1. A Brooklyn senator wants to put an end to winter evictions in New York for good. On Thursday, Sen. Zellnor Myrie (D -Brooklyn) and backers rallied outside of Brooklyn Housing Court in support of a bill that would "prohibit sheriffs and marshals from executing eviction warrants statewide during the coldest part of the year." Myrie and his supporters argue that evictions during the winter months are inhumane, and prevention of such will help to address the city's homelessness crisis — barring winter evictions between Nov. 1 and April 15 of each year, they say, is just as much a matter of public health and safety as it is tenants' rights. Winter Moratorium on Evictions Act, as the bill is called, is also supported by Democratic Assemblywoman Anna Kelles (Ithaca). The bill is modeled after eviction moratoriums instituted across all five boroughs at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which prevented thousands of families from facing homelessness. 2. A new museum is coming to Brooklyn with an eye towards the future. The Museum of Digital Experience (MoDE) just announced its grand opening event later this year. The MoDE was founded by serial entrepreneur Shaiful Chowdhury and co-founder Eddie Yang, a duo who hopes to foster a museum experience that's the first of its kind — where audiences can interact in new ways with the artists themselves and experience "joy and delight." The experience will be approximately 40 minutes, and visitors will interact with and experience 14 different art installations that utilize the newest tech, from AI to regenerative computing.
3. And while we are talking immersive experience in Brooklyn, the annual On Air Fest is happening right now, bringing some of the most popular podcasts to life. This weekend at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, On Air: The Podcast Experience is leveraging the awe-inspiring power of immersive theatre and games to audio media. The experience features multiple rooms taken over by a collection of podcasts and their creators, including 'Radiolab,' 'On Being Project,' 'The Heart,' 'Object of Sound,' and 'My Favorite Murder.' According to On Air's website, tickets (which will run you $39-$49) grant access to each of these curates' spaces that aim to "envelop visitors in the world of a single podcast designed to spark imagination, delight and discovery." In addition to the technological and theatrical elements, experiences will also feature fun activities like temporary tattoos, a collective playlist, puzzles, and "even a chance to ponder life's deepest questions."

- Opening night was yesterday, but you can still catch "Brooklyn is Africa," a public art exhibit showing now at Borough Hall. "In partnership with the Cultural Museum of African Art (CMAA), this year's exhibit will tell the story of "Survival + Persistence = Resistance" through a selection of Eric Edwards' collection of rare and historical African art and artifacts, representing the diaspora of the borough."
