🗞 Top stories today in Brooklyn:

1. A Manhattan bodega murderer is wanted for three other hold-ups in Brooklyn and the Bronx. During an attempted robbery Friday evening, an armed thief wearing coveralls and a mask shot and killed a beloved bodega clerk on Manhattan's Upper East Side. In a statement yesterday, NYPD said that the suspect is wanted for at least two other robberies in Brooklyn over the last two weeks — a man wearing the same outfit and using the same ride as that of the Manhattan murder allegedly robbed two Brooklyn stores leading up to Friday, as well as another in the Bronx shortly after the Upper East Side killing. None of the other incidents have ended in bloodshed. A reward has been posted for anyone with information leading to an arrest. (NBC New York)

2. The very first emissions-free tugboat will be making its debut voyage around Brooklyn's waterway. Amogy Inc. announced pioneering the future of the maritime industry with a zero emissions, ammonia-powered vessel. Amogy announced its plans yesterday at CERAWeek® 2023 to present the tugboat later this year — they predict that ammonia could become the leading fuel source for the world's largest cargo ships by 2050. The fuel system Amogy is using for its tugboat is based on a model used in its ammonia-power semi-truck earlier this year. Amogy was founded in 2021 in Brooklyn, and its highly efficient ammonia-to-power technology is on course to completely redefine the future of shipping fuel. (Yahoo Finance)

3. It's officially Purim in Brooklyn — here's how the borough is celebrating: Yesterday (March 6) marked the first day of Purim, an annual Jewish holiday marked by lively, carnival-like festivities like costume parties, parades, and sweet treat exchanges among friends and family. In some of Brooklyn's most historically Jewish neighborhoods, specifically Williamsburg and Crown Heights, expect to see decorations and costumed folks. But what is now a colorful and fun-filled celebration has some far more sober origins: Around the year 357 BCE, a Persian royal advisor named Haman used a lottery to choose a date to massacre Jews — Purim, meaning "lots," refers to that lottery. Luckily, Jews got wind of Haman's agenda and were able to outsmart the high-ranking official, saving thousands from death. During Purim, Jews celebrate their survival in Persia with merrymaking and joy. Happy Purim! (Brooklyn Reader)

  • "An Indian eatery in Park Slope earned a tasty honor: it's one of Brooklyn's most exciting restaurants, according to Eater. Masalawala & Sons made Eater's list of 'The 15 Hottest New Restaurants In Brooklyn' for March. The eatery on Fifth Avenue near Fifth Street is 'another hit' for a team behind the city's only Michelin-starred Indian restaurant, the Eater list states." (Patch)
  • "Bidders looking to bring a casino to Coney Island released their vision for the gambling hub on Friday, featuring a towering glass building overlooking the amusement park in the heart of the waterfront community [...] A short walk from the Cyclone and the Wonder Wheel, the building would immediately transform the Coney Island skyline with its imposing structure, multi-colored rooftop, and heavily illuminated surroundings on the ground."
