Borough Park Gets New Anti-Flooding Pavement: Report

The Department of Environmental Protection has installed pavement with built-in drainage to mitigate flooding in Brooklyn.

Borough Park's streets may look like nothing has changed, but the city has begun to swap out seven miles of concrete with permeable pavement, Reasons To Be Cheerful reports.

The pavement is engineered with drainage holes, making it easier to absorb water and reduce flooding.

This is part of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection's plan to help the city's most flood-prone neighborhoods, the report says.

In Borough Park, the new porous pavement is being strategically installed where the street meets the sidewalk so water can drain quickly and spare people's homes, cars and sewer systems.
