Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

1. The feel-good Thanksgiving stories continue, this time with jet-setting feline who finally found his way home in Brooklyn after TSA found him a check bag. Smells, a curious orange cat, hopped into an open suitcase while someone in his household wasn't looking. TSA agents were shocked when an X-ray screening at JFK showed the little stowaway's four paws and tail inside the zipped bag. Smells wasn't hurt and made it back to his Brooklyn home for a Thanksgiving feast (see pictures at the link).

2. A new 'Christkindlmarket' is coming to Brooklyn. After a couple of COVID-ridden holiday seasons, shoppers are embracing holiday markets this year and shopping less online. Popular in Germany and Austria are season holiday markets called Christkindlmarkets, and NYC's Urbanspace is operating holiday markets in a similar fashion — one in Bryant Park, Union Square, and Columbus Circle, and on Monday, they opened a new location Brooklyn. New Yorkers are turning out in a big way to make these markets a success, and small businesses are feeling more financially supported this holiday season than they have in a long time. "We've received more applications than ever before, that tells us vendors are excited to be back in the pop-up game," said Evan Shelton, director of Pop-Up Markets at Urbanspace.

3. Brooklyn just got a billion-dollar investment into its tech-forward future. Yesterday, New York University announced that it will be putting $1 billion into its flagship engineering school in Downtown Brooklyn. The goal is to improve the university's ranking among competitors and raise the city's profile in the technology sector. Brooklyn is already outpacing other boroughs when it comes to adding tech jobs and is already home to companies like Etsy and Kickstarter. In September, NYU purchased 3 MetroTech Center, a 10-story, 350,000 square-feet building in Brooklyn. The university's investment will be used over a decade to to revamp labs and student spaces at Tandon School of Engineering, as well as expand its focus on cybersecurity, wireless technology and artificial intelligence.

4. Brooklyn artist captures the hustle and bustle of daily life in new streetscape mural in DUMBO. If you find yourself at Empire Stores at 55 Water St., the take the elevator up to the roof, turn to corner, and Zeph Farmby's latest work will be to your right. The piece is done in black and white, and features a scene of Farmby and his Great Dane, Pharoah, walking infant of the Brooklyn Bridge on the highly photographed Washington Street. The image recalls a similar photo take of Farmby and his pooch that was featured in The New York Times, an image Farmby reproduced on T-shirts and other swag, not thinking they'd sell as well as they did. Farmby's Time Out Market mural will be a stop on DUMBO's First Thursdays Gallery Walk today. Don't miss out!
