Brooklyn Library Expands Service, Opens 43 Branches On July 21

With temperatures hovering around 100 degrees this weekend, NYC's public libraries have decided to expand service on Sunday, July 21.

From Brooklyn Public Library: With temperatures hovering around 100 degrees this weekend, New York City’s public libraries have decided to greatly expand service on Sunday, July 21 to help New Yorkers stay cool and safe.

The City’s three public library systems—Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library, and The New York Public Library, which serves the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten—are opening a total of 43 branches (25 more than on a usual Sunday) on July 21 to help New Yorkers cope with the extreme heat. New York City public libraries are considered cooling centers.

On Thursday, transportation service Lyft also announced that it is offering 2 free rides (up to $15 each) to New Yorkers heading to select public libraries to stay cool using the code NYCCOOL19 through Sunday. More information can be found here.
