Brooklyn Museum Charges $2,500 For David Bowie Exhibit Tours
"David Bowie is" opens at the Brooklyn Museum Friday and those willing to pay $2,500 can get a private tour.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A new David Bowie exhibit opens this week at the Brooklyn Museum with ticket prices almost as stunning as the superstar.
Bowie fans willing to pay $2,500 for an “Aladdin Sane” ticket will be treated to a private guided tour of the exhibit, Bowie-themed merch, parking passes and more, according to the Brooklyn Museum website.
Less daunting tickets are also available for “David Bowie is” — an exhibit from the rock star’s personal archive, which runs from March 2 to July 15 — that cost $20 on weekdays and $25 on the weekends.

The museum usually asks only for a suggested $16 entry fee, and has never before charged $2,500, but Brooklyn Museum President David Berliner told the Wall Street Journal that certain exhibitions have come with higher ticket prices.
“We charge…when the cost of the exhibition demands additional revenue,” Berliner told the Journal in an email.

Those paying $25 — 1 percent of the Aladdin Sane ticket, named after Bowie’s 1973 album — will not be allowed an extra guest or a yearlong “Groundbreaker” museum membership which includes invitations to future exclusive events.
The Brooklyn Museum is the last stop on the exhibit’s five-year tour which began at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in March 2013.
The collection includes the late artist’s costumes, handwritten lyrics, from original album art, photos and videos, according to the Brooklyn Museum.
"David Bowie is" will be on display on the fifth floor — at the Morris A. and Meyer Schapiro Wing and Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Gallery — of the Brooklyn Museum at 200 Eastern Parkway.
Those interested in viewing album art at a more affordable price can visit one of Brooklyn's many record stores for free.
