Brooklyn Teacher Fired After Alleged Classroom Sexual Act, Investigators Say

BROOKLYN, NY— A Brooklyn public school teacher lost his job after investigators found he engaged in alleged sexual misconduct during a virtual meeting with parents and later inside his classroom, officials reported on Thursday.

Zhengxian “Remy” Li, who worked at Restoration Academy in Bedford-Stuyvesant, was fired from New York City Public Schools after the allegations were investigated by the Special Commissioner of Investigation for the New York City School District.

The investigation began after a complaint was filed online in 2024, according to SCI.

Li allegedly stood up from his desk during a Zoom presentation with parents and exposed his buttocks and private area on camera, the complaint read.

About three weeks later, a second complaint alleged Li was seen engaging in a sexual act inside his classroom, investigators reported.

SCI did not disclose the identities of the people who reported the incidents.

It was unclear whether Li faced any criminal charges.

A search of the New York State Unified Court System’s public case search did not show a criminal case filed under Li’s name at the time of publication.

A spokesperson for the school system said Li was immediately reassigned away from students after officials learned of the allegations and is no longer employed by the district.

“We have zero tolerance for conduct that violates the trust placed in our educators,” the spokesperson stated. “Upon learning of these allegations, the employee was immediately reassigned away from students and is no longer employed by New York City Public Schools.”
