Join The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life for a special screening of The Last Generation, an intimate documentary capturing a conversation between Evelyne, a grandmother and Holocaust survivor, and Matt, her grandson. With these two generations side by side, the documentary encapsulates the sacred act of remembering together, preserving a story that can only be told in this shared space.

Evelyne Appel was just a little girl when the world she knew disappeared. In this intimate short documentary, she sits with her grandson, Matt, to revisit memories she has rarely spoken aloud– moments of survival, loss, resilience, and unexpected hope. What emerges is a living testament to memory itself, a reminder that when survivors speak and their grandchildren listen, history stays alive.

This screening will be followed by a talk back from the film’s director Sophie Rose and producer Maddy Kramer, as well as Evelyne, and Matt. We will also invite participants to join in small group conversations, to share their own family stories in honor of the film’s themes of historical rupture and intergenerational memory.
