For Kate Jones, the answer involved 472 subway stations, an unlimited MetroCard (R.I.P.), and a Guinness World Record. This talk covers strategic planning, resilience, and how life’s detours sometimes take you somewhere far more interesting than your original destination.
Bio: Kate Jones is a Vietnamese American writer and performer from New Jersey (exit 91), currently based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Kate is a two-time Guinness World Record breaker. She is the voice of Michelle Nguyen on the podcast “Welcome to Night Vale,” an alum of the NY Neo-Futurists and co-founder of the Degenerate Fox Theatre Company (UK). You can catch her comedic stylings on Instagram, TikTok, or in a basement bar somewhere in Switzerland.
Bio: Dr. Pauline Hoffmann has an extensive background in health communication having worked in public relations for a large health system in Western New York and as a senior public health fellow with the Cattaraugus County Health Department. She is also a professor at St. Bonaventure University in rural New York where she indoctrinates her students in leftist ideologies instead of worrying about whether they do their assignments or not. Her research interests include conflict resolution, crisis communication, health communication, and infodemics. Her book, Fake News, Witch Hunts & Conspiracy Theories: an Infodemiologist’s Guide to the Truth, tackles the crisis of disinformation in a humorous, non-academic way (no one wants to read a textbook) – and she thinks she coined the term “infodemiologist” to describe someone who studies the infodemic (pandemic of disinformation). She is a master diver often diving with sharks which is much safer than swimming through the disinformation we see.
