Tag Sales, Hoedowns, Pickleball and Costumed Dogs Are Coming to Montague Street
Six Car-Free Sundays Bring Free Events, Live Music, Shopping and Family Activities to Brooklyn Heights Through October 25
Montague Open Streets continues for six more Sundays this fall, bringing a different lineup of free events to Montague Street each week through October 25.
Montague Street between Clinton and Hicks Streets will be closed to cars from 10 AM–7 PM each Sunday for outdoor dining, shopping, activities and live entertainment.
The fall schedule includes Brooklyn Heights’ first ever Community Tag Sale with 40 neighborhood households, FAD Market with more than 60 independent makers, pet blessings and a dance party, a Montague Street hoedown with Jalopy Theatre, the annual pickleball tournament and the Montague Diner Dog Costume Contest.
All activities are free and open to the public.
SEPTEMBER 20: FAD MARKET POP-UP 12–6 PM
More than 50 independent designers, artists and makers will line Montague Street with art, clothing, accessories, home goods, gifts and one-of-a-kind finds.
Super Soccer Stars will be on hand to entertain the kids with casual soccer activities.
SEPTEMBER 27: BROOKLYN HEIGHTS’ FIRST COMMUNITY TAG SALE 12–4 PM
Forty Brooklyn Heights households will bring clothing, books, housewares, toys, sports equipment, accessories, collectibles and other secondhand finds to Montague Street for the neighborhood’s first Community Tag Sale.
There are a few seller spaces left and then a wait list will be created. No walk up sellers will be accepted.
Free Brooklyn Heights walking tours with McNeil Tours will be offered at 1 PM and 3 PM.
OCTOBER 4: PEOPLE, PETS + A DANCE PARTY 12–5 PM
The day includes a New York Blood Center blood drive, a pet supply donation station from The Service Collective and Doggie Flow Yoga with GTHR Yoga.
St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church will hold a Blessing of the Animals in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis.
The NYC Department of Tenderness, an unofficial city agency devoted to love, affection and connection, will invite visitors to mark where they first fell in love with New York City on a community map.
After the blessing, DJ Del hosts Blessed Beats: A Dance Party for Pets + People.
Pets are welcome on leashes.
OCTOBER 11: MONTAGUE STREET HOEDOWN WITH JALOPY THEATRE 12–5 PM
Montague Street goes country for an afternoon of live music and square dancing.
Hopalong Andrew opens with cowboy songs and family friendly music, followed by katydids and caller Sammy Osmund leading a community square dance from 1–4 PM. Beginners are welcome and the moves will be taught on the spot.
Free Brooklyn Heights walking tours return at 1 PM and 3 PM.
OCTOBER 18: PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT + CASUAL PLAY 12–5 PM
The Brooklyn Heights Association’s annual Montague Open Streets Pickleball Tournament returns with competitive tournament play and casual games.

OCTOBER 25: MONTAGUE DINER DOG COSTUME CONTEST + LIVE MUSIC 12–5 PM
The fall season closes with the Montague Diner Dog Costume Contest, bringing neighborhood dogs in Halloween costumes to Montague Street.
Brooklyn Heights band Rogue Connections performs live from 3–4 PM with folk, rock, classic and contemporary covers and original music.
EVERY SUNDAY
Free children’s art with Miss Piera and Le Meraviglie Art Studio runs from 12–5 PM, along with giant street chess, oversized games and sidewalk chalk.
Restaurants and cafés will offer outdoor dining, while Montague Street businesses host pop-ups, samples, demonstrations, activities and giveaways throughout the season.
