Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
1. In an upgraded indictment, suspected Sunset Park subway shooter Frank James has been charged with committing a terrorist attack. In April, a gunman opened fire on a northbound N train in Sunset Park. Ten people were injured. A federal jury has upgraded the charges against suspect Frank James to 10 counts of committing a terrorist attack or other violence against a mass transit system — one count for every victim who was injured. James has also been charged with discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. He has pleaded not guilty.
2. Every year, Brooklyn's very own Hanukkah Fairy creates 'Hanukkah House,' a family tradition and neighborhood treasure. About 25 years ago, Gail Nalven Fuchs and her husband, David Fuchs, stayed up all night before the first day of Hanukkah to adorn the interior of their Midwood house in tinsel, dreidels and blue and white decor — a surprise for their kids, then 5 and 7. Back then, a Fuchs family tradition around the holidays was to drive around and see all of the light displays in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights. But their son wondered, why were they all Christmas themed? Ever since, Gail the Hanukkah Fairy has going all out for the Jewish Festival of Lights, with light displays and inflatables inside and outside. Now, the entire neighborhood passes by to snag a picture.

3. A firefighter has lost his life after falling from makeshift scaffolding while preparing for a training drill in Crown Heights. William Moon, 47, was critically hurt after his fall, and on Friday his family was told by doctors that he would not survive. According to FDNY officials, Moon and his crew were training on how to rescue window washers trapped on immobile platforms hundreds of feet in the air. The last firefighter death in a training drill happened a bit more than a year ago: FDNY probationary Firefighter Vincent Malveaux, 31, died Dec. 2, 2021, at the FDNY Training Academy on Randall's Island during a training exercise. He was six weeks into his 18-week course.

From my notebook:
- Coming up in the new year is BAM's 37th Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther: "The fact that this event continues to draw the biggest crowd in New York City on Martin Luther King Day year after year shows his enduring significance in society. We gather to celebrate his life and discuss the serious work still at hand," said BAM Vice President of Creative Social Impact Coco Killingsworth. Learn more at the link. (Broadway World)
- Remembering Joanne Seminara, Democratic Committee member and Community Board 10 chair: "The lifelong Ridgeite began her a career as an attorney and went on to practice in New York and New Jersey for more than three decades. Seminara began speaking on issues regarding estate, trust and taxes at local educational seminars and even led her own legal education workshops. She also spent time teaching at her alma matter Notre Dame High School in Staten Island, and ran for City Council three times, knocking on thousands of doors to introduce herself — and her ideas for a better Bay Ridge."
