Last Friday, October 29, 2021, Ms. Carmen Jones, a resident at Concord Nursing & Rehabilitation on Madison Street in Brooklyn, celebrated her 105th birthday with her family, fellow residents and staff. Ms. Jones, born on October 29, 1916 in Barbados, has been a resident at Concord since July 2014.

Prior to being admitted at Concord, she had lived alone peacefully in her Bedford–Stuyvesant apartment. Many years ago, Carmen loved to sew, making all of her clothes, plus she used to knit and crochet. Carmen loved attending her church and was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, only one block from the 140-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility where she is now. Equally, she also loved attending the services in the Day Room at Concord Nursing and did this before the Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to these gatherings.

With her loving family, Carmen Jones celebrates her 105th birthday on Oct. 29

Carmen, pleasantly and soft-spoken, never married or had any children, but was a part of a large extended family, that she outlived.
