CB6 led Brooklyn in turnout as Brad Lander heads to Congress, and all five Charter questions passed by wider margins here than citywide.

Greetings,
Based on any awareness of the CB6 district, Brooklyn, or NYC, most of those reading this, and even the person writing it, are pleased with last night's results. The results I'm referring to include Brad Lander’s win, who is now officially the first former Brooklyn Community Board 6 member elected to Congress, and in January will be sworn in to represent NY's 10th Congressional District, which includes all of CB6, as part of a new and still-growing Democratic majority in the House, alongside one in the Senate. We've worked with Brad for many years and are confident he'll do great work. So major congrats to Brad.
This newsletter isn't the best place to analyze broader macro & national results, so I'll say I hope HUD gets funded like the Pentagon and I'll return to a more localized sphere of influence. Here goes.

CB6 turnout was 56.1%, the highest in Brooklyn and second-highest of 59 board districts citywide, against averages of 39.7% in Brooklyn and 39.9% citywide. Last year's mayoral race drew 61.9% here, and once all the ballots are counted, this year's numbers are expected to surpass our most recent midterm easily.
You may wonder why a midterm drew fewer voters in CB6 than last year. There wasn't a competitive race on the ballot, by any definition of the term. Last year we had a competitive general election for Mayor, with then Assemblymember Mamdani against Andrew Cuomo, a former decade-long Governor with universal name recognition.

No race here was close. Governor Hochul beat Bruce Blakeman 92% to 8% in CB6, and she won 76% to 24% citywide and 60% to 40% statewide. Comptroller DiNapoli won here 93% to 7%, and Attorney General James 90% to 10%. Brad Lander took 91% in CB6 and 83% across the 10th Congressional District. In the Legislature, Andrew Gounardes won our part of his Senate district 92% to 8%, Jo Anne Simon 93% to 7%, Robert Carroll 94% to 6%, and Marcela Mitaynes 92% to 8%. Zellnor Myrie had no opponent.
The most competitive matters on the ballot were the five Charter changes, all of which passed. Question 1, faster permits for public spaces like sidewalk cafes, got 77% yes in CB6 and 63% citywide. Question 2, less paperwork for City contractors, got 76% and 62%. Question 3, faster street safety projects and City property deals, got 76% and 66%. Question 4, simpler building and waterfront permits, got 81% and 68%. Question 5, rainy day fund targets, got 82% and 73%. Okay, that's enough election for this newsletter, but congratulations to everyone who won, especially to Governor Hochul, Comptroller DiNapoli, Attorney General James, Congressmember-elect Lander, Senators Gounardes and Myrie, and Assemblymembers Simon, Carroll and Mitaynes.
I'll leave you with that. Scroll down, read the rest, download, and you'll see that while voting ended for the year yesterday, civic life continues.
