Drake Meme Appears In Parks Department's Fort Greene Park Renderings

Drake, who once played wheelchair bound character on Degrassi, can be found in the middle of an official report on Fort Greene Park.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — The Parks Department dropped a Drake meme into their renderings for the new Fort Greene Park renovations.

The award winning hip hop star can be seen on an entrance ramp in a rendering on page 52 of a Parks Department proposal to renovate Fort Greene Park, which was released Tuesday.

The picture, which depicts Drake’s “Degrassi” wheelchair bound character, is very similar to a meme that went viral after the rap artist’s music career took off.

The “wheelchair Jimmy” image first became famous in 2009, when people began posting memes with reimagined Drake lyrics, according to KnowYourMeme.com

Among the more popular memes were, “Last name walk/First name never” and “They see me rollin'/They hatin’.”

The Parks Department respond to Patch’s request for comment with a take on Drake’s own lyrics.

“Started at the bottom of Fort Greene Park’s signature hill,” Sam Biederman wrote in an email. “Now we’re here with the final design, which takes care to create a more welcoming park entrance – with improved views.”

And, hours later, the Parks Department tweeted a new rendering of Drake enjoying the High Line in downtown Manhattan.

This is not the first time the Parks Department press office has flaunted its funny bone — when the agency removed a naked statue of Donald Trump that appeared in Union Square Park in 2016, the Parks Department again responded with a off-beat statement.

"NYC Parks stands firmly against any unpermitted erection in city parks," said Biederman. "No matter how small."

The surprising appearance of the Drake meme was first discovered by the website Brokelyn.
