Driver Shot In The Face After Brooklyn Crash: Police

BROOKLYN, NY— A livery cab driver was shot after a minor crash in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood early Friday morning, and police are searching for the gunman who fled into a nearby housing complex.

The shooting happened shortly before 4:15 a.m. on North Portland Avenue between Park Avenue and Myrtle Avenue, according to police.

Investigators said a black SUV was involved in a minor collision with a transport van when a man approached the driver’s side window and opened fire.

The 50-year-old driver was struck in the right cheek, police reported.

Emergency workers found him awake and speaking as they transported him to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

He was listed in stable condition.

The gunman ran from the scene and entered the nearby Walt Whitman Houses, a New York City Housing Authority complex, according to police.

Investigators described the shooter as a man with a large build who was wearing a black shirt and gray shorts.

No arrests have been announced.

Police have not said whether the driver and shooter knew each other or what may have led to the gunfire.
