First Round Of Showers Arriving Soon Before Heavier Downpours Hit NYC

NEW YORK, NY— Showers will spread across New York City Sunday afternoon before heavier downpours raise the risk of localized flooding overnight.

Showers will begin developing from the southwest around 3 p.m, according to the National Weather Service.

Light to moderate rain will become more widespread through the afternoon and evening

Forecasters expect the greatest risk for heavier pockets of rain overnight, with the threat continuing through about 4 a.m. Monday.

The biggest concern comes Sunday night after sunset, when heavier downpours could develop.

Rainfall totals are expected to reach about 0.5 to 1.5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.

Temperatures will reach the upper 70s to low 80s, with increasing humidity.

The system should move out quickly Monday morning, leaving behind a lingering shower early in the day before skies brighten.

Another isolated shower or thunderstorm could develop Monday afternoon, but most of the day should remain dry.
