Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
1. Beware this Black Friday, Brooklyn, rumor has it that inflation is making bargain elusive this year. No one wants to bring holiday debt into the new year, and even though sales advertisements might claim 30, 50, and even 70 percent off, chances are that shoppers will still be paying more for stuff this year because of inflation. Long story short, finding a true bargain this year might pose a challenge. That said, it may depend on what you're after. Many New Yorkers have reported noticing high inflation rates on everyday items like stuff at the grocery store, while other goods like clothes and such don't seem to have jumped so high.
2. The city's "extremely online entities ponder life after Twitter" after Elon Musk's chaotic takeover of the blue bird app. Long has the MTA relied on Twitter to send real-time updates of subway delays, track changes, etc. to New Yorkers. Just this week, their @NYCTSubway Twitter feed informed riders that subway lines in southern Brooklyn wouldn't be running due to subway signal damage. And MTA's tweets are often the cause of great frustration, the social media app does provide vital, near-instant communication between the transportation giant and the millions of New Yorkers it serves every day. However, after Musk's wave off mass-layoffs, firings, technical snaffus, and an employee exodus, some users worried that the platform's potential demise could hinder information-sharing among New York's elected officials, government agencies, nonprofits and others who rely on it as the go-to place online to disseminate and consume critical information in real time.
3. This Bushwick-based barber is offering free housing and haircuts to asylum seekers in New York City. Juan Sanchez has been cutting men's hair for 30 years, a profession he started when he lived in Venezuela. At 51 years old, Sanchez works at Central Latino Barbershop in Bushwick, supporting his wife and child. Now, he's extended that care and compassion to the large number of people fleeing Venezuela and arriving in New York City. Sanchez is offering space in his modest apartment for asylum seekers to stay on cold nights — currently there are seven others living under his roof. He's also extending his craft and giving free haircuts. This Thanksgiving, Sanchez is serving turkey and choice Venezuelan side dishes to any hungry migrant who wants to experience their first Thanksgiving in America.

🐝 Brooklyn Buzz:
- 💚 Grateful for loved ones: Politics and culture writer Ashley Reese and Brooklyn Law School student Rob Stengel's 8-year romance began in 2014, but a tragic prognosis brought difficulty to their lives. On Oct. 16 of this year the pair got married in a community-effort backyard wedding in Brooklyn that came together in under a week. Read the Ashley and Rob's full story at the link. (Vogue)
- 🎄 And, well, grateful for Christmas: At the link, check out all of the Christmas tree lighting festivities that Brooklyn has to offer, because it's officially that time of the year. (Brownstoner)
