Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
1. As Kathy Hochul's slips in the polls, New York Democrats hope their inspired base will spike numbers on Election Day. These final days have been feverish for both parties, with Hochul leading by between only 4 and 11 points; for many in the deeply blue state this margin is much too close for comfort. Hochul is banking on an Election Day surge, especially because the number of Democrats registered to vote in New York State far exceeds Republicans—perhaps these closing margins will be the push that Dems need to get them to the polls on Tuesday. On the other side, Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin is also facing an uphill battle. In order to get elected as New York's next governor, Zeldin will need to win upstate, in the suburbs, and get 30% of votes in New York City.
2. A new prosecutor's report sheds light on the killing of veteran TSA agent who worked at JFK. Back in May, 45-year-old Donovan Davy was shot dead blocks away from his home when he stepped out one night to grab something from the store. The murder suspects are believed to be a couple, and new surveillance footage shows the same driver and car drop off and pick up the gunman after he shot Davy in the neck. Video and cell phone data link the pair to the car that drove up on Davy that evening. The suspects were arrested in early September and are set to face a maximum sentence of 25 years if they are found guilty.
3. The famed Tower Records has reopened in Williamsburg under a new name after going bankrupt 16 years ago. The once-ubiquitous music retailer has reopened in New York, known in its heyday for its album release parties for artists including Elton John and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters. Now called Tower Labs, the new Williamsburg location is hoping to liaise with other local venues to foster an "intimate space" with a "lounge-inspired feel" for performers to socialize before and after shows. Hoping to bring new energy to the Brooklyn music scene, Tower Labs has plans for monthly drops of limited edition Vinyl LPs, merchandising collaborations, and, in essence, to reinvigorate the backstage experience.

The Sunday Read:
🍁 For some New York farmers, harvest time means high times. "In the 1930s, the growing of cannabis was all but banned across the United States. Gradual decriminalization in recent years has meant the return of a crop that was once an American staple." This is an interactive scrolling experience, as well as an excellent story.
