What inspired you to start painting?

Al Serino: My biggest inspirations are beautiful landscapes. Since a young age, I wanted to transfer on canvas the beautiful landscapes I have seen. I started photographing the landscapes to later paint them. Later, I discovered that the best is to paint outdoors because you can better perceive the sound of nature.

Can you talk about your creative process?

Al Serino: I spend hours looking at the world and taking photos. Sometimes, I make sketches too. Half the fun is choosing an image to paint.

I recommend getting out there in the world and take notes about what lights you up. You should paint what lights you up.

The only advice I offer is that you should choose simple images in the early stages. Your will to live will be crushed if you choose a complicated image.

What is your preferred choice of paint?

Al Serino: I use acrylic paint almost exclusively. This is because it provides me the ability to build surfaces on my pieces without waiting for so long for the paint to dry. I can add almost anything that can be attached to the canvas. This provides me with endless opportunities.

Can you tell me where your paintings can be seen?

Al Serino: You can see my paintings online on: Saatchi Art, Pictorem, my SVA portfolio, or you can visit my reedsy profile.

What advice will you give to the young painters in general?

Al Serino: To find out what lights their fire and to always follow their passion.
