BROOKLYN, NY — A man was shot in the chest and left injured during a police involved shooting in Brooklyn on Wednesday.

The incident happened around 1:50 p.m. near Avenue K and Utica Avenue in Flatlands, police said.

The NYPD advised people to stay away from the area around Avenue K and Utica Avenue.

“Due to … police activity, please avoid the vicinity of Utica Avenue & Avenue K in Brooklyn. Expect emergency vehicles & delays in the surrounding area,” police said in a post to X.

The incident apparently stemmed from an argument between two men, police said.

According to multiple media reports, when officers tried to intervene, one of the men allegedly lunged at them with a box cutter.

The man was shot once in the chest and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The officers involved in the shooting were not injured.
