Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
1. A young man, 27, lost his life over $10. Police said yesterday that Daniel Ryan died on Friday, three days after he was attacked and stabbed on a Brooklyn street. A female companion witnessed the confrontation, which occurred Moore Street near Humboldt Street in Williamsburg. Police arrive to the scene after a 3:55 a.m. call on Tuesday morning; there, they found Ryan lying the sidewalk with stab wounds to his neck and upper body. According to the witness, Ryan lived just a few blocks away from the incident with his wife, two children, and a stepdaughter, was urging with his killer over a few bucks. No murder weapon has been retrieved, and police are still searching for a suspect.

2. New hotels are moving away from the hipster Williamsburg, betting on some of the boroughs other niche neighborhoods as the next wave of cool. One such player is Ace Hotel Brooklyn, whose reputation precedes it as a brand who knowns how to spot up-and-coming places around the borough. Their most recent pick? Ace Hotel just placed its chips in Boerum Hill, the leafy neighborhood whose rows of 19th century brownstones rub elbows with trendy cafes and boutique shops. It's the picture-perfect place for weekend romps. Ace, too, is both trendy and classic, combining new wave shared spaces for communal working and Zooming, and a traditional bar and dining setting. According to Evening Standard, Ace's Beorum Hill location has "an intentionally retro feel to it all, giving the Ace's signature concrete and black steel a Mad Men-like touch."
3. BagelFest is coming back for a Winter Games edition of the beloved Brooklyn foodie event. As it happens, Jan. 15 is National Bagel Day, and the festival is returned to our borough to celebrate New York's favorite breakfast food. "As far as we are concerned, National Bagel Day is the first major holiday in January and it's the perfect day to host a Bagel Eating Contest and other Winter Games," said BagelFest founder Sam Silverman in a statement. The winner of the bagel-eating competition will receive a $500 cash prize, with the runner-up receiving $250. Both will be gifted a "Brooklyn Deluxe" package valued at $200 from beloved bakery Bagel Boss. This upcoming BagelFest comes after the third successful happening of the event in September 2022, which saw over 2,000 attendees and more 17 participating bagel businesses. 4. Perhaps you're familiar with the Instagram-worthy ice bars and hotels of Norway, but soon enough you won't have to leave Brooklyn for a similar chilled experience. This Thursday, and all-ice-everything rooftop lounge is opened at the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. "This icy pop-up, Polar Lounge, is temporarily taking over Harriet's Rooftop, pairing the locale's stunning skyline views with a glittering glacial landscape dotted with custom-designed ice sculptures, ice furniture, and even ice cocktail glasses." And while it's safe to assume your drink will stay cold, guests will assuredly stay cozy thanks to Polar Lounge's collaboration with luxury outerwear brand Moose Knuckles to provide sustainably sourced parkas from their collection. A percentage of sales will be donated to the nonprofit Oceanic Global in support of their work to protect our oceans and polar regions.
