Man Who Killed A Brooklyn Bouncer Gets 20-Year Prison Sentence: DA

The man stabbed two bouncers after being kicked out of a Gowanus nightclub.

BROOKLYN, NY — A Bronx man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for stabbing two bouncers with a knife, killing one, after being kicked out of a Gowanus party, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said.

According to Gonzalez, Jose Velasco, 22, was kicked out of a party at a Gowanus nightclub on 7th Street between Second and Third avenues for acting aggressively on Feb. 26, 2022.

Then, Velasco got into a fight with the bouncers, two of whom punched him in the head and face, Gonzalez said.

After that, the defendant took a knife from his waistband and stabbed one of the bouncers in the back, and then chased the third bouncer — 25-year-old Marvin Pretto — into the street and stabbed him in the chest.

Both bouncers were rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, and Pretto died of his injuries, Gonzalez said.

“This was a senseless and escalatory act of violence that cost a man his life. The defendant has admitted his guilt and will now have to live with the disastrous consequences of his actions,” Gonzalez said.
