Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

1. A missing 19-year-old student was found earlier this week on Brooklyn train tracks, burned and with a gunshot wound to the head. On Tuesday, DeAndre Matthews was pronounced missing, and later that day police found the teenager's body near Nostrand Avenue in Midwood. As investigators try to piece together DeAndre's final 24 hours, the teen's mother and family are mourning their loss. According to this victim's sister, DeAndre left his job at Buggy Service Center in Crown Heights around 5 p.m. Monday and went home to borrow their mother's Jeep for the night. His sister was one of the last people to speak to him on the phone before he disappeared. His Jeep was found, burned, outside a warehouse on Troy Avenue. On Friday, the victim's mother had a message to whoever is responsible for killing her son: "I don't even know what to say to the camera, but whoever the killer is, reveal yourself, because you're gonna get caught . . . that was my best friend. He made me a mother."

2. Turkish Cultural Center in Brighton Beach is leaning on the Brooklyn community, gathering donations for the Turkey's earthquake relief efforts. Following a massive 7.8 earthquake, the death toll in Turkey and Syria has topped 23,000, and thousands more are unaccounted for. Around the world, people are working to support survivors, including in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn where the loading dock of the Turkish Cultural Center in Brighton Beach is packed with donated goods, including clothing, diapers, and pallets of building supplies. For those wondering how they can help, The city has set up a website on how New Yorkers can help with the disaster relief efforts — visit the links below for more.

3. A Good Samaritan was shot trying to stop a late-night robbery at a Brooklyn deli. On Friday night, a customer at the deli on Myrtle Avenue in Clinton Hill found themselves at in the wrong place at the wrong time when an armed thief entered the store and trying to rob the cash register just before closing time. The 48-year-old bystander intervened and got into an argument with the suspects — one man aimed a gun while the other tried to get at the register. The customer was shot and taken to the hospital in stable condition. The police have not yet released descriptions of the suspects at this time.
