Mother Critically Injured After SUV Jumps Curb In Brooklyn: Police

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, NY— A woman remains in critical condition after police reported an SUV jumped a curb and struck her and her 4-year-old daughter as they walked with family Sunday night in Bed-Stuy.

The crash happened about 9 p.m. near Park and Nostrand avenues, according to the NYPD.

A 39-year-old man was driving westbound on Park Avenue and was turning onto Nostrand Avenue when the SUV sideswiped a gray Honda, police reported.

The vehicle then mounted the curb, struck a 31-year-old woman who was walking with her three children and crashed into a fence.

Emergency crews rushed the woman to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where she remained in critical condition.

Her 4-year-old daughter also suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Authorities have not released the child's condition.

The woman's other two children were not injured seriously enough to require hospitalization. Police released them to another parent.

The driver stayed at the scene. Police have not filed charges, and investigators continue to examine what caused the crash.

City crash data show 62 reported crashes occurred along the stretch of Nostrand Avenue between Flushing and DeKalb avenues over the past year, injuring 30 people, Steetsblog first reported.

Along Park Avenue between Tompkins and Classon avenues, city records show 69 reported crashes during the same period, leaving 31 people injured.
