🗞 Top stories today in Brooklyn:
1. FDNY chiefs' demotions have delayed a sexual harassment case against a 'Motherless Brooklyn' fire marshal. A sexual harassment case was filed against Fire Marshal Jonathan Cummings, who allegedly pleasured himself in front of the cleaning woman inside the EMS Academy in Queens, was also caught up in the scandal surrounding the 2018 blaze in Harlem that killed a veteran firefighter. However, Assistant Chief Joe Jardin, who was overseeing the Cummings case, was just recently demoted to deputy chief last month, leaving the sexual harassment case in limbo. Learn more at the link. 2. Brooklyn community members have formed a neighborhood watch group out of concern for increase in crime. On Saturday, community leaders were joined by New York State Assembly Member William Colton for a rally to bring attention to the matter. "If you see something, say something," Colton stressed at the meeting. According to the assembly member, the most important thing Brooklynites can do is continue to look out for one another. 3. The free Fresh Air Fund is offering summer camp in Brooklyn and throughout the other four boroughs. The camp gives city kids the chance to escape the loud, polluted confines of the city and head out for a summer of unforgettable, natural adventures. They'll head to sleepaway camps at Fresh Air's more than 2,000 acres of wilderness in Fishkill, New York, or they'll visit volunteer host families all along the East Coast. Registration for Fresh Air Fund camps is now open for 2023 Summer Programs, which this year include everything from swimming and hiking to playing sports and learning new musical, crafting, and even coding skills.
