NYPD Officer Charged With Rape And Child Sex Crimes In Brooklyn: Police Report

Police say the case involves off-duty allegations that have been referred for prosecution.

BROOKLYN, NY— An off-duty New York City police officer faces multiple felony charges after authorities arrested him in Brooklyn and accused him of rape and crimes involving a child.

Police arrested Joshua Acosta, 39, at about 7:56 p.m. Wednesday in Brooklyn, according to the New York Police Department.

Investigators charged Acosta with three counts of rape, three counts of sexual misconduct, two counts of course of sexual conduct against a child and one count of acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Police referred the investigation to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, according to law enforcement sources.

Authorities have not released additional details about the allegations, including when the alleged crimes occurred or whether Acosta has entered a plea.
