🌱 Park Leadership Faces 'Moose Gate' + Invisible Infrastructure

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Brooklyn.

(Patch Media)

Hello, friends! I'm here right on time with your fresh copy of the Brooklyn Daily, filled with all the community information you need to know right now. Including updates on...

  • Moose Gate
  • An invisible BQE
  • Stolen cars 🚗

But first, today's weather:

☀️ Breezy in the afternoon. High: 55 Low: 42.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Brooklyn who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Brooklyn Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

1. The new Prospect Park Alliance (PPA) head is facing "Moose Gate" after a dog was murdered. Morgan Monaco's leadership was announced Tuesday in a PPA press release. The news comes after months of simmering tension amongst Park Slope progressives, issues that came to a raging boil when a woman and her dog were attacked in the park — Moose, the golden retriever, died a few days later from internal injuries related to the beating. Worried about the rising crime rates and violence incidents in their neighborhood, but feeling hopeless to do anything about them, Park Slope is looking to Monaco's new leadership to address some of their park-related safety grievances.

2. The Department of Transportation is flirting with an "invisible fix" for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, but Brooklynites remains skeptical that the triple cantilever will ever see any real innovative fix. The aboveground BQE, running adjacent to the Brooklyn waterway, is an eyesore, and has been for quite some time now. Frustrated Brooklyn residents have been staring the thing down — for some, all their lives — and despite promises year after year to reimagine and renovate expressway, nothing has come to fruition. However, the Mayor Eric Adams administration is determined to have a concept ready by spring 2023, at the moment leaning towards an "invisible" approach proposed by the Bjarke Ingles Group: a throughway entirely hidden underneath rolling green hills.

3. Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed in measures to aid domestic violence survivors. The five-law package was approved amid concerns about rising domestic violence and gender-based abuse incidence in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The laws are meant to secure the privacy of victims and survivors, as well as aide in the seizure of firearms of people under protective order, and utilities will be required to allow victims and survivors to opt out of shared contracts, without penalty.

Spectrum News NY1

4. The NYC subways have taken another life, this time that of man who fell on the tracks during a fight. The incident took place at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue station in Queens during the afternoon rush hour, according to multiple media outlets who spoke with local authorities. Reportedly, one man bumped into another and caused him to drop his phone onto the tracks. When the phone-less accuser demanded the other retrieve his phone, the two got into a fight, leaving the 48 year old dead. Police said it is unclear whether the victim fell or was pushed.

Washington Times

5. NYPD reports that 20 cars stolen from a NYC lot were used for a flurry of crimes. The car thieves targeted a Mitsubishi dealership over the weekend, breaking a lockbox with the keys and driving off with 20 late-model autos. Some of the stolen cars were sold overseas, said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig, but investigators are convinced that other will be used to carry out future crimes.
