Pedestrian Killed, Driver Charged With DWI After Brooklyn Crash: NYPD
The 68-year-old victim was trying to cross the street in the crosswalk when he was hit by an impaired minivan driver Wednesday, per police.

BROOKLYN, NY — Police said a 68-year-old pedestrian died Wednesday night after being struck by a drunk driver, while trying to cross the street in Brooklyn.
The crash took place shortly after 6:45 p.m., when a 911 caller reported a collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Glenwood Road and East 105th Street. New York City police said that the driver of a Dodge Caravan was going westbound on Glenwood, and struck the pedestrian as he was trying to cross Glenwood Road from north to south.
The pedestrian, identified as 68-year-old Louis Garcia of Brooklyn, was thrown to the pavement and suffered "severe trauma" to his head, according to police investigators. Officials said EMS crews responded to the location and transported Garcia to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, 47-year-old Gary Turner of Brooklyn, remained at the scene and was taken into custody; he is accused of operating the vehicle while having a blood alcohol content of 1 percent (the legal limit is .08 percent).
Officials charged Turner with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, driving while intoxicated, and related charges, according to police.
