BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Ice cream mermaids, nurse mermaids, balloon mermaids, and all kinds of mermaids paraded through the streets for this year's Coney Island Mermaid Parade.
Arlo and Nora Guthrie were named king and queen of the 37th annual Mermaid Parade on Saturday to celebrate their father, the songwriter Woody Guthrie, and the newly dubbed Woody Guthrie Way on Mermaid Avenue and West 35th Street.

The parade drew hundreds of costumed New Yorkers to the boardwalks to celebrate what has become a Brooklyn institution since it began in 1983.

Among the celebrities in attendance was Miss Coney Island 2019, a burlesque artist named Pearls Daily, who sported Ariel-red hair, a tiara and a sash, but no green fins.

It wasn't just the finned and two-legged who joined in on the festivities.

The parade also had its political moments. A mock-President Donald Trump sported prisoner's garb, a ball-and-chain, and a sign that read "Catch of the Day."

And a group of New Yorkers marched behind a sign that read, "Immigrants make America Great."

The parade brought acrobats, dancers, make-up artists and more, all decked out in their sea creature best.
