The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Brooklyn.

Hi all. It's me, Carlie Houser, your host of the Brooklyn Daily — the Groundhog Day edition! Follow along for the most important things going on in town these days. In today's briefing, we'll cover these stories and more...
- How BCC's new international deal helped a BK Caribbean restaurant
- A 12 year old was shot among group of kids passing around a gun
- BBP Reynoso wants you to apply for your local community board
But first, today's weather:
🌤 Breezy in the afternoon. High: 41 Low: 27.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Brooklyn who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our readers to local businesses they need to know. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
1. Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with a number of South Korean start-ups to bring new, global tech to local businesses. Chef Debbie Dennison at Reggae Town Cafe spends her mornings cooking up a storm in the basement kitchen at Industry City in Brooklyn. Now, thanks to her new wave air purifier from South Korean tech company, 'A Virtual,' Dennison has noticed a major reduction in her allergies ... and she doesn't smell like food when she leaves work at the end of the day! Last month, Reggae Town Cafe received its first air purifier as part of BCC's new global partnership with the Korean International Trade Association (KITA), Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK), and Korean innovation foundation INNOPOLIS. The groups have elected 10 Korean start-ups to expand BCC's international footprint; in return, these start-ups are able to test their new product in real-time business settings like Dennison's Caribbean kitchen.
2. Another child has been made a victim of gun violence, this time a 12-year-old boy who was shot in the shoulder in the lobby of a Brooklyn apartment building. Just before 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, a young man playing with a gun pointed it at a 12-year-old boy in the lobby of an apartment building at 325 Bristol St. in Brownsville. He opened fire and shot the boy in the left shoulder, according to police. While police were initially investigating if the 12 year old pulled the trigger on himself, video footage and/or witness accounts claims that a group of eight to 12 youths were hanging out inside the lobby, playing with a gun, when one removed its magazine covering, aimed it at the victim, and opened fire. It appears that the shooter did now know the gun was loaded. The 12 year old was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition and is believed to make a full recovery.
3. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso is asking all of you to apply to the Community Board. At the end of his State of the Borough speech last month, Reynoso addressed the glaring lack of diversity in one of the city's longtime institutions; according to a 2020 Borough Hall report, the average board applicant is a white homeowner between 45 and 64 years old with at least a master's degree. Hoping to reform NYC's Community Boards, Reynoso is urging as many people to apply as possible before the Feb. 14 deadline. A larger, more diverse applicant pool will mean Community Boards that better represent their communities racially, religiously, economically, and culturally. As Patch reports, Community Boards are made up of "local community members who issue advisory, non-binding options on a slew of matters, including zoning and housing decisions, liquor licenses, street changes, park renovations, and many other issues, and are often relied on to bring community needs to the attention of those in power."
