Public Advocate Candidates To Debate Environmental Policy In BK

Candidates will discuss issues such as lead poisoning prevention, sustainable transit and waste reduction in Brooklyn Tuesday night.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Sixteen candidates hoping to replace the former public Advocate and current attorney general Letitia James-Attorney will gather in Brooklyn Tuesday night to talk climate change.

Politico New York reporter Gloria Pazmino will moderate the forum, hosted by the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, inside the Brooklyn Law School at 250 Joralemon St. at 6 p.m.

The forum will offer voters the chance to learn about where candidates stand on the city's environmental goals and policies, including lead poisoning prevention, reducing waste, and sustainable transportation policy.

Among the candidates in attendance will be Assembly members Michael Blake, Ron Kim, Daniel O'Donnell, Latrice Walker, City Council members Rafael Espinal, Eric Ulrich, Jumaane Williams and former council speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

The forum comes about one month before voters are slated to choose James' replacement in a Feb. 26 special election.

The citywide office became vacant when James was signed into office and became the state's first black woman attorney general.
