Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

1. A public housing complex has become an Eden for rodents, raccoons, and others pests, and residents are fed up. In 2017, the New York Housing Authority launched a $550 million climate resiliency overhaul of the Red Hook houses infrastructure as part of the recovery program following Hurricane Sandy. However, the program, supposed to be completed by mid-2021, is only 60 percent done. The unfinished housing development, now the site of a 40-acre network of underground tunnels, has turned the complex into a wildlife reserve for four, six, and eight-legged critters. And now that the animals have staked their claim to the area, residents fear their unprecedented infestation won't beastly gotten rid of.

2. In the middle of the afternoon, an armed robber stole $6,000 in cash from a grocery store after threatening to shoot, according to police. Police say the suspect entered the grocery store located at 1152 Coney Island Ave. around 1:06 p.m., approached the counter, displayed a firearm and demanded money from the register. The 49-year-old female employee complied and gave the suspect $6,000 in cash. The suspect then fled on foot, heading northbound on Coney Island Avenue. No injuries were reported. The suspect is described as a male approximately 25-years-old, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, with a dark complexion, medium build, black hair, and facial hair. He was last seen wearing a gray winter jacket with a hood, light colored pants and light colored sneakers.

3. New law and order show 'East New York' isn't sitting well with East New Yorkers. CBS' new cop show stars Amanda Warren as Regina Haywood, an ambitious, reform-oriented head of a new precinct. And while the show is doing pretty well at amongst critics (88% on Rotten Tomatoes), it's gotten some disapproval hate in the city it's chosen to highlight. Many of the program's critics who are actually from East New York are disappointed that the CBS series emphasizes crime in the neighborhood and paints a false image of its police precinct. According to East New York's community board district manager Melinda Perkins, the show "feeds the stigma, more than it helps our continued progress that we've been on . . . This is going to feed the world another view of East New York. And the question is, does it reflect who we really are?" And City Councilman Charles Barron referred to the neighborhood's historically corrupt and inefficient police force by calling upon the writers: "Don't try to sanitize the 75th with a Black police officer coming in with some fictitious methods for curbing violence in East New York through policing."
