Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

1. A glass building is being constructed inside the historic Domino Sugar Refinery. At the moment the structure is only a steel skeleton peeking out above the landmarked walls of the old sugar refinery on the East River in Williamsburg at 292 Kent Ave. Practice for Architecture and Urbanism and Two Trees paired up for the renovation project, hoping to remake the more than 130-year-old factory into an office building with a design aimed at amplifying natural light. The project was approved by the Landmark Society in 2017, but pandemic-era concerns about the viability and longevity of commercial spaces has brought the project into controversial territory. As many companies have transitioned to remote work in NYC, filling 460,000-square-feet of commercial space could pose a challenge.

2. The Brooklyn Nets have suspended Kyrie Irving for five games without play for his failure to say outright that he does not hold any antisemitic views. After Irving posted a link to an antisemitic documentary on his Twitter, he apologized only for being unclear about which views represented in the film he did and did not agree with. Following the incident, the Nets worked with Irving to help him see the consequences of his actions, and both parties actually donated $500,000 each to the Anti-Defamation League. However, in a press conference on Thursday, when Irving was promoted to disavow completely his having antisemitic views, he refused to do so. Dismayed, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made a statement saying Irving was unfit to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets — Silver plans to talk with Irving later this week.

3. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden's after-dark illuminated spectacular, Lightscape, is returning on Nov. 16. Sold-out crowds in 2021 made Lightscape's debut a total hit. This year, over a million lights, animated by color and sound, will illuminate a one-mile trail that winds through the Garden's 52-acre landscape. New works of art by international artists will dot the path, along with the returning iconic Winter Cathedral and a reimagined Fire Garden destination. For hungry trekkers, seasonal treats and concessions will be available along the way. For more information about the experience and how to snag a ticket, visit the link below.
