But first, today's weather. . . not out of the storm quite yet:
☁️ Windy with clearing. High: 60 Low: 50.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Brooklyn who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Brooklyn Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
1. Little Amal bids Brooklyn a bittersweet farewell. Despite weather threats, throngs of Brooklynites gathered to say goodbye to the puppet whose been traveling city weeks for a month or so, spreading love, humanity, kindness, and awareness and support for refugees around the world. Yesterday, Amal took her last walk in New York City through Brooklyn Bridge park where hundreds waited to bid her farewell. Rosanne Cash performed at Amal's goodbye celebration, led by St. Ann's Warehouse and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus led by Dianne Berkun Menaker.
2. Police have Dasia Johnson's ex-boyfriend in custody: he is being questioned as a suspect in her gruesome murder. Johnson, 22, was a victim of domestic abuse whose body was found dismembered and stuffed into suitcases in a Brooklyn apartment just weeks ago. While cops grill the victims ex-boyfriend and abuse perpetrator NYPD is also seeking six witnesses whom police gathered from surveillance footage were "obtained from the incident location." Before building workers walked into Johnson's bloodied apartment and discovered remains, the victim had a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, whom neighbors had witnessed the abuse and overheard verbal threats on multiple occasions.
3. Brooklyn's Democratic Party Boss is poised to retain seat despite a scandal-filled first term. Save for any last-minute turn of events, Party Boss Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn is situated comfortably for re-election today. Earlier this month, Hermelyn announced her re-election—to the surprise of voters and many of her peers—in a botched meeting; yet another stain on the Democrat's already rocky first term wherein the public called for criminal investigation into the party. Other scandals marring Hermelyn's reign include forged Board of Elections documents tied to allied party leaders and"ghost candidates" on petitions for low-level positions.
4. New York's food delivery drivers face dangerous roads everyday; on Saturday, a driver on an e-bike was hit by a car in Brooklyn. On Saturday night, around 6:30 p.m., in Williamsburg, a food delivery man riding an e-bike was hit by a car at the intersection of Grand Street and Morgan Avenue. The cyclist was hospitalized at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens with injuries to the head and neck, but it expected to make a full recovery. The grill of the car involved in the crash was damaged on the driver side. Police are still investigating the collision.
