Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
1. Squatter shot and injured in Brooklyn school bus shooting, police say. NYPD found a man with gunshot wounds in an unoccupied, off-duty school bus in Kensington early Thursday morning. The victim is a 30-year-old man sustaining injuries to his jaw, nose, bicep and chest. Cops are currently looking for two suspects, one described as a man with a medium complexion, thin build and full beard last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and light-colored sweatpants. The second suspect is just said to be a man with dark complexion.
2. Brooklyn is honoring Black women suffragists with new plaque in Fort Greene. The first National Votes for Women Trail (NVWT) historical plaque in New York City will be unveiled in Brooklyn to commemorate the centennial of the 19th Amendment and honor the efforts of a Brooklyn-based group of Black Women Suffragists, Equal Suffrage League of Brooklyn, who fought to secure the right to vote for all women in America. The ceremonial dedication and unveiling occurred in the early afternoon yesterday in Cuyler Gore Park.
3. AI is giving Brooklyn streets a digital makeover, offering visual representation to what's possible in urban project planning. Earlier this year, the internet was obsessed with the Dall-E beta, an artificial intelligence search engine. Zach Katz, a 28-year-old artist and urban design advocate, is leading a group of activists towards a shared vision: a more pedestrian friendly NYC that puts walkers and bikers first. Transform Your City is using Dall-E artificial intelligence to reimagine cities with more open spaces such as parks, car-free boulevards, and bike lanes, on the whole making it easier for city planners to envision potential projects that would make the city safer and more accessible.
