1. According to a recent report, Brooklyn has the highest tech job growth rate in all of New York City. With 14,000 new tech jobs between 2012 and 2021, the borough has experienced a significant jump of 42% in that time span. And as for Brooklyn's exponential growth relative to other NYC boroughs, in 2021 it contributed to a total of 46,000 tech jobs, accounting for 12% of total tech employment in all of the city (Manhattan contributes a whooping 75% to that total). So what accounts for this growth? According to the HR&A Advisors report, the reason for the boom in Brooklyn over the past decade is attributed to targeted investments in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and the Brooklyn Tech Triangle. Both organizations are home to numerous tech companies throughout the borough.

2. Early this week, New York City Council approved the creation of over 5,000 new housing units, with over 65% designated as affordable in Brooklyn and Queens. “As our city grapples with a housing crisis that threatens communities, the Council has advanced major projects that provide tens of thousands of affordable homes to New Yorkers,” said Speaker Adrienne Adams. The legislation also includes unprecedented public benefits for the residents of Brooklyn, Queens, and the entire city, including programs to advance substance use recovery programs, mental health services, and regulation of catalytic converter sales to prevent auto theft.

3. Two teens were arrested for verbally harassing and throwing eggs at a Jewish teenager in October. Police announced Wednesday that they'd arrested and charged a 15- and 16-year-old for the attack which was aimed at a 15-year-old dressed in traditional Jewish clothing on East 18th St. near Bay Avenue in Midwood—he was pelted with eggs in the back and shoulders while his attackers launched a flurry of verbal abuses and yelled, "Free Palestine!" Police are still looking for other teens who were involved in the attack.

4. Traveling COVID nurse finds himself in the ICU after getting shot in the stomach during Brooklyn park fracas. Carey Thame, an intensive care unit nurse, spent on the front lines of New York’s COVID-19 battle. Now, he himself is thankful to be alive after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach after a couple of men approached Thame and a friend while they were walking through Brooklyn Bridge Park in late August. Though he's spent the majority of his professional life in the ICU, Thame says he never expected to be on the receiving end of such intensive care. He thought he might never walk again. Fortunately, the 29-year-old approached Thanksgiving this year with gratitude and healing—feeling better and thankful to be alive.
