BROOKLYN, NY — A 24-year-old Brownsville man has been sentenced to 32 1/3 years to life in prison for raping and robbing two women during separate gunpoint attacks in an East New York park.
Marcus Collier was sentenced on Thursday after being convicted on charges in May. He was found guilty of predatory sexual assault, first-degree robbery, first-degree criminal sexual act, first-degree rape and third-degree robbery.
"This defendant terrorized two women and subjected them to horrific sexual violence at gunpoint," District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said.
"Today's sentence reflects the seriousness of these crimes and ensures that this dangerous defendant will be kept off our streets. I commend the survivors for their courage in coming forward and testifying at trial."
According to prosecutors, Collier attacked a 20-year-old woman on Oct. 11, 2021, after approaching her near Louisiana Avenue and the Breukelen Ballfields.
Prosecutors said he forced her into the park at gunpoint, stole her money and cellphone, and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.
On Nov. 7, 2021, prosecutors said Collier approached a man and a 30-year-old woman sitting in a vehicle near the same area. After displaying what appeared to be a firearm, he allegedly forced the woman into the park, where he raped her at gunpoint before releasing her.
The defendant was arrested Nov. 10, 2021, after DNA evidence linked him to both assaults, according to the District Attorney's Office.
