Brooklyn Man Killed For His iPhone 7, Police Say

Huiping Wu, who was beaten and robbed in East New York in June, died from the injuries he sustained, police said.

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn man was killed for his iPhone 7, according to police.

Huiping Wu, 50, was beaten and robbed of his cellphone on the corner of Glenmore Avenue and Barbey Street — less than a block away from his home — around 7 p.m. June 24, police announced Tuesday.

Emergency responders rushed Wu, who suffered from cuts on his face and mouth, to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition, but he died from his injuries on July 31, police said.

Police were unable to clarify how the abrasions led to Wu’s death.

The suspect, whom police describe as an adult man, could potentially face manslaughter charges along with charges of robbery, an NYPD spokesman said.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the NYPD.
