Brownsville City Council Candidate's Headquarters Ravaged By Fire, FDNY Says

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn City Council candidate's headquarters were ravaged by a two-alarm fire Sunday night, FDNY said.

The blaze erupted in Alicka Samuel's headquarters on the corner of Belmont Avenue and Osborn Street around 9 p.m., said the FDNY.

One firefighter received a minor injury while battling the fire, which had escalated to a two-alarm by 9:15 and was extinguished by 9:50, according to an FDNY spokesman.

Samuel, who is hoping to get the Democratic nomination for Brownsville's 41st city council district, alerted her followers on Facebook that the blaze would not stop her from campaigning.

"Material possesions can be replaced, wrote Samuel. "The Race Is Not To The Swift Or Strong But To Those Who Endure To The End-- just another obstacle, another hurdle. We got this."

An FDNY spokesman said the cause of the fire is under investigation but is not believed to have been suspicious.
