Fake Livery Cab Driver Charged With Attempted Brooklyn Rape: Cops

David Ramones was arrested for trying to rape a woman in the backseat of what she thought was a livery cab, police said.

CYPRESS HILLS, BROOKLYN -- Police arrested a Queens man they said posed as a livery cab driver and tried to rape the woman who mistakenly got in his car.

David Ramones, 26, was charged with attempted rape and menacing Tuesday for attacking a 39-year-old woman he picked up in front of El Gran Mar de Plata on Fulton St. at about 5 a.m. on Aug. 6, police said.

Ramones drove to a fast food parking lot on Atlantic Avenue, got into the backseat, pulled out a gun, began to beat and attempted to rape his victim, said police.

The brave woman fought Ramones off, so he got back in the driver's seat and sped away with her in the back seat, police said.

He eventually pushed the woman out of the car and she went to Jamaica Hospital to be treated her pain and bruising on her face and chest, said police.

Police released photos of Ramones on Sunday and arrested him Tuesday, after receiving several tips, NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea wrote on Twitter.

"Detectives and community working together to apprehend another sexual predator," said Shea. "Thank you to all New Yorkers who called in tips."

Ramones is slated to be arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court on charges of attempted rape, sex abuse, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, court records show.
