HoodStarz Member Who Killed 17-Year-Old Girl To Avenge Brother's Death Sentenced, Prosecutors Say

Clayton Gravenhise shot Ubequeen Turner because he believed her relative killed his brother, prosecutors said.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — A HoodStarz gang member convicted of murdering a teenage girl in the head as an act of revenge for his brother’s death now faces 37 years in prison, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Clayton Gravenhise, 22, admitted he shot Ubequeen Turner, 17, in the head, chest back and buttocks on the corner of Marcy Avenue and Quincy Street around 1:20 a.m. on July 13, 2014, prosecutors said.

The teenaged girl was related to a man Gravenhise suspected of murdering his brother earlier that month, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

Gravenhise also sought revenge on his dead brother’s birthday on Nov. 11, 2014 when he and several others shot into a crowded courtyard — shooting a 32-year-old man in the back — on Lott Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard around 10:50 p.m., prosecutors said.

Gravenhise was convicted of murder in Brooklyn Supreme Court on April 3 and sentenced on Tuesday, prosecutors said.
