Man Sells Car Then Steals It Back In Brownsville, Police Say

Alex Sweeney sold his gray 2004 Nissan last week, then jumped inside and drove away, according to police.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — Police are hunting for a man who sold his car only to steal it back and speed away.

Alex Sweeney, 21, met his 33-year-old victim outside 974 Thomas S. Boyland St. last Friday around 7:50 p.m., police said.

The 33-year-old handed over his $900 payment, received a receipt, then watched as Sweeney jumped in his gray 2004 Nissan Maxima and drove off, said police.

Police describe Sweeney as a six-foot-tall man weighing about 160 pounds last seen wearing a red t-shirt, black sweatpants and a black du-rag.

The Nissan license plate number is HGR-4581, said police.
