Man Who Shot 2-Year-Old Boy in Brownsville Charged With Attempted Murder, Prosecutors Say
Lyemel Summerville was charged with shooting a 20-year-old and a two-year-old in Brownsville on Aug. 19, police said.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — The man who wounded a two-year-old boy and another man with a single bullet has been charged with attempted murder, prosecutors announced Friday.
Lyemel Summerville, 19, pulled out a gun in the middle of a fight with a 20-year-old man on the corner of Junius Street and Sutter Avenue around 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, prosecutors said.
When Summerville fired at his opponent, the bullet passed through the 20-year-old’s thigh and grazed the toddler, who was sitting in his stroller with his grandfather nearby, said prosecutors.

The 20-year-old was transported to Brookdale Hospital and the toddler was transported to Kings County Hospital, both in stable condition, said prosecutors.

Summerville was charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Friday and held on $50,000 bail, said prosecutors.
Summerville is expected to return to court on Nov. 20 and faces up of 25 years in prison if convicted, prosecutors said.
