Muggers Beat L Train Straphanger With Broomstick, Police Say

Police are looking for two men who chased an L train passenger and beat him with a broomstick when he wouldn't hand over his cellphone.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — An L train straphanger was swept up in a brawl when two would-be muggers attacked him with a broomstick last month, according to police.

The 25-year-old man was attacked by two teenagers around 3 a.m. on May 17, after he caught a southbound L train at the Sutter Avenue station and refused to hand over his cellphone, said police.

The angry teens started hurling punches at the man, chased him onto the Rockaway Parkway station platform, grabbed a broomstick and beat him with it, police said.

The man managed to hold them off and the two teens eventually fled the station without his phone, according to police.

The teens left their victim with cuts on his hands and knees and swelling to his head, said police.

A surveillance caught images of the suspects, whom police describe as young men in their late teens wearing hoodies and jeans.
