Thief Stole $40K Worth of Fridges, Stoves, And Tools From Brownsville, Police Say

The suspect has stolen $37,660 worth of kitchen appliances and tools from homes and construction sites near Broadway Junction, police said.

BROWNSVILLE — Police are hunting for a kitchen bandit who has stolen almost $40,000 in appliances and tools from Brownsville homes and construction sites in the past five months.

The thief has broken into at least five homes, three construction sites and one store near Broadway Junction between Dec. 20 and April 19 and made off with $37,660 in loot, which included a refrigerator, stove, and microwave, according to police.

The bandit’s most lucrative job occurred on Dec. 28 around 5 p.m. when he raided a construction site near Thomas Boyland and Fulton streets and ran off with $19,000 worth of construction tools, police said.

In his most recent heist, the suspect stole a refrigerator and stove worth about $1,600 from a residential building near Hull Street and Eastern Parkway on April 16 around 6 a.m., said police.

There have been seven other robberies, according to police:

  • On Dec. 20, the suspect stole a microwave from a basement apartment near Fulton Street around 11:10 p.m.
  • On Jan. 17, the suspect stole electronics and gloves from a construction site near Thomas Boyland and Fulton streets around 7 p.m.
  • On Jan. 18, the suspect stole tools worth $1,100 from a home on Thomas Boyland and Sumpter streets around 6 p.m.
  • On Jan. 23, the suspect snuck in the front window of a home on Atlantic Avenue and Sackman Street around 10:20 p.m. and stole $15,000 in tools.
  • Also on Jan. 23, the suspect broke into a ground-floor apartment on Pacific and Sackman streets around 11 p.m. but fled empty-handed.
  • On Feb. 4, the suspect broke the front door lock of a store on Pacific and Sackman streets around 5:30 p.m., entered and stole tools worth $960.
  • On Feb. 18, the suspect cut open a metal link fence outside a construction site on Pacific and Sackman streets around 3:30 p.m. but once again left empty handed.

Police describe the suspect — whom video surveillance footage captured breaking into one of the five homes he has robbed — as a man wearing a cameo baseball hat, brown coat, dark jeans and boots.
