Police say 282 gun arrests and 437 seized firearms are helping make Buffalo neighborhoods safer, though leaders stress there is still more work ahead.
   

• DEC & EPA update radiological screenings across Niagara and Erie Counties (wkbw.com) — State and federal crews based out of Buffalo are expanding radiological screenings across Niagara and Erie counties, including Southtowns neighborhoods, with more than 700 properties already checked. Most sites need no further action, but some require soil testing, and officials stress the proactive effort aims to catch any issues early; a hotline is available for residents' questions.
   

• NY: Niagara Power Transformer Plans $71 Million Expansion in Cheektowaga, Adding 73 Jobs (tradeandindustrydev.com) — A Cheektowaga manufacturer just announced a $71 million expansion that will add 73 jobs and boost transformer production by 50%, strengthening the industrial base just outside Buffalo. The project, building on a century of Buffalo-region manufacturing, will add 96,000 square feet of space and is expected to be completed over the next two years.
