📰 News we're reading

1. Flooding and insurance: What damage is covered and what isn't? (wkbw.com) — Recent flash flooding in Buffalo and nearby communities left many residents cleaning up and wondering what insurance will actually cover. This piece explains how auto, homeowners, and federal flood insurance work differently, why outside water damage usually needs separate flood coverage, and why even people outside mapped floodplains should talk with their agents now about their real risks and options.

2. Mayor looks to borrow for capital projects through control board (buffalonews.com) — Buffalo's mayoral administration wants the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority to borrow on the city's behalf for long-delayed capital projects, a move that needs Common Council approval. The change could bypass the comptroller's strict $29 million debt cap and unlock tens of millions for city infrastructure and Buffalo Public Schools that have been stalled for years while a legal fight over borrowing authority plays out.

3. NY Loves Canada campaign seeks to bring Canadian dollars back across the border (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Buffalo-area tourism leaders are working to lure back Canadian visitors with the NY Loves Canada discount campaign, even as Erie County's tourism numbers rise thanks to new marketing in U.S. flight markets. Local officials say Buffalo's story still depends on strong cross-border ties, and some of the program's travel deals will continue into December.

4. Canisius' Elijah Kimble is already a Syracuse commit. Against Health Sciences, he played like it. (buffalonews.com) — A standout performance from Canisius running back and Syracuse commit Elijah Kimble energized local fans, as he racked up 231 rushing yards, four touchdowns, and an interception in a 41-14 win over Health Sciences at Erie Community College. The game underscored Buffalo's growing reputation for top-tier high school football talent drawing national attention.
