4. Fifteen startups selected for final 43North competition in Buffalo (fingerlakes1.com) — Buffalo residents can attend the final 43North startup competition for free, with semifinal pitches on Oct. 7 at the Golisano Institute and finals Oct. 8 at Shea's. Five companies will each win $1 million and support to grow operations in Buffalo, continuing a program that's already helped attract startups, jobs, and investment to the city and Western New York.
   

5. Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff celebrates culture, education and community (wkbw.com) — Buffalo's Hispanic Heritage Council has kicked off its 16th annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, spotlighting local culture, music, and education under the theme "Unidos somos más." Residents heard updates on the nearly finished Hispanic Heritage Cultural Institute and saw local students honored with scholarships, while being invited to join events running through Oct. 15 across Western New York.
